ONE DAY OF WORK, ONE YEAR OF SCHOOL Is a program that provides low income families from Paraguay an opportunity to send their children to a private school which bases academics on Biblical principles. Eleven years ago, a graduated student from Bethany Training School of Paraguay saw an opportunity to reach kids in the neighbourhood for Christ. If they could open a school they would be able to provide children with an education and meet their spiritual needs with the message of salvation. In 1994, Escuela Cristiana Betania (Bethany Christian School) began serving the community with Preschool and Kindergarten. One year later, the parents asked the school if they would add a 1st grade class. The following year the same thing happened, parents saw the positive influence in that the school had in their kids’ lives, and asked the school to add another grade. Today the school has of 300 students ranging from preschool through 12th grade. Not only is this school providing an education for these kids but is also providing jobs for national families. The school staff is made up of 25 full time salaried teachers and 4 volunteer Missionaries. Today America is the leading nation in the world, and according to Global World income per Capita, in 2003, America boasted one of the largest incomes in the world - $37,870.00 per capita. Paraguay, the second poorest nation the South America is has an average income per capita of $1,100.00. For one child attending Escuela Cristiana Betania, it costs $150.00 per year. One day of work in America will provide one year of education for these children. Take this opportunity; make an investment in their education, an investment in their spiritual formation, and an investment in their lives. Being that Escuela Betania is a private school, they are able to teach from the Bible. $120 will keep a child in school for one year. This is not expensive for Paraguayan standards, but the people of this particular neighbourhood are very poor. These are the families that need the most help.
